Club Officials

Captain - Mr Stewart Birchall
Stewart joined Preston in 1997 and was Treasurer for 10 years from 2001; he is a Club man through and through. He is regarded as a handy golfer and extremely competitive, having a handicap index of 11. Stewart has been integral to driving the club forward over the years as the face of golf has changed. Stewart has two children Daniel and Holly and together with partner Gill they are all looking forward to supporting Stewart and the Club during his Captaincy.
Lady Captain - Dr Jane Edwards
I am delighted to be the Lady Captain of Preston Golf Club. Unlike many of my predecessors, I am a relatively new golfer having only taken up the game 5 years ago, following retirement from my pathologist role at the Blackpool Victoria and Royal Preston Hospitals. I therefore still recall the difficulties in joining a golf club, when there is no-one you know - Where to join and when? - Do I buy clubs and which ones? - Will anyone play with me? The answers to all these questions awaited in the ladies section at Preston. In our supportive and friendly group, the lady members all help one another - and whilst we have our stars, the majority just enjoy our lovely course and the camaraderie. I'm glad I joined!
President - Mrs Penny Beckett
Penny was delighted when she was asked to remain as Club President for a second year, following the disruption of 2020. As only the second female member to hold this prestigious role, Penny has ambitious objectives for her year in office, especially in relation to her role as the club's Women in Golf ambassador. Penny started playing golf in 1987 and joined the club in 1988. In 2005 she was appointed Lady Captain (a role she undertook with enthusiasm, whilst also working full time as a Science teacher) and after taking early retirement in 2014, she further supported the club by becoming a member of Council. Penny continues in this role and as part of her responsibilities, undertakes the role of Club Welfare Officer.
Junior Captain - Charlie Hodgson
Charlie has been involved with the junior section at Preston Golf Club for almost 10 years - progressing from taking junior lessons to becoming a junior member and then to being a member of the junior team in the last 3 - 4 years. He was part of the successful team that won both the Charity Cup and Finals day in 2019. Charlie found a love for the game after watching and playing with his parents, who are both members of PGC. Charlie is looking forward to the return of competitive golf in the 2021 season (fingers crossed!) and to rebuilding a strong team after the loss of a few key members of the group.
